Orthopedic Surgeons Specialist - Chris Boone, MD

What should I know about osteoarthritis?

Dr. Boone specializes in treating osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease that progressively worsens over time. You can slow down joint deterioration, maintain an optimal range of motion, and alleviate your pain with a comprehensive and personalized treatment plan from Dr. Boone.

He starts with the basics, such as activity modification, physical therapy, and effective pain-relieving options such as joint injections and non-narcotic medications. When your osteoarthritis has caused severe joint damage or your pain and movement continue to worsen, Dr. Boone is the expert you need for the optimal treatment: joint replacement using advanced robot-assisted surgery.

What is robot-assisted orthopedic surgery?

There are several critical steps performed during joint replacement surgery: damaged cartilage and bone are removed, the bone is prepared, and the new metal or ceramic prosthetic joint is placed.

Dr. Boone uses two types of robot-assisted devices that enhance his surgical skills by making joint replacement surgery more accurate and individualized for each patient.

Stryker Mako® Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology

Dr. Boone uses the free-standing robotic arm to create a 3D model of your knee or hip joint, which is used to plan and guide your surgery. Then he uses the robotic arm again to very precisely remove damaged tissues and implant the prosthetic joint. The Mako system decreases operative room time and lessens damage to the healthy surrounding tissues allowing faster and more improved recovery

Smith & Nephew NAVIO™ Surgical System

This robot-assisted system offers similar benefits as the Mako technology, but it’s a handheld device that uses real-time imaging to plan and guide your surgery. The NAVIO system also provides Dr. Boone with the ability to place a ligament sparing knee replacement based on your anatomy. The Smith & Nephew XR total knee is a great alternative for patients who have an intact Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and want to retain this ligament.
